Cherlyn received her Master of Music from the Saint Louis Conservatory of Music, and her Bachelor of Music from North Park University in Chicago.  Since then, she has taught at Kenyon College, as well as several of the largest community music schools in the country; founded and taught Chamber Music programs and orchestras in the midwest and the Pacific Northwest, and has become the ongoing Strings Clinician for the Christian Musician Summit.  Her students have gone on to be performers, teachers, recording engineers, worship leaders, and above all, people who enjoy making music!

 

Cherlyn has performed extensively throughout the United States and across Scandanavia.  She is an active performing and recording artist, and worship leader in the Pacific Northwest.   She has performed with Phil Keaggy, Michael W. Cherlyn brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her students.  With a strong classical foundation, Cherlyn also has much experience in Celtic and contemporary styles, as well as Improvisation, and playing with a band.  Her special niche is teaching improvisation for worship, for both string players and pianists.  Cherlyn is also a composer and arranger; she arranges all of her music for her own concerts.

 

With all of this, you'll find a teacher who truly loves to teach and mentor her students.  And Cherlyn's students greatly enjoy being a part of her studio!  They have opportunities to perform within the community, and use their improvisational skills in worship settings.  Cherlyn believes that it is important to build a strong foundation of technique, and that expression is the key to playing well at every level.

 

Cherlyn has a private studio at Kaleidoscope School of Music in Issaquah, and a private home studio in Maple Valley.  She also teaches at a homeschool co-op in Renton.  In addition, she offers various workshops at different times throughout the year.  Check out our "Events" page to find out what's happening next!

Tuition is based on a semester basis.  Monthly installment payments are:

$110.00 for 30 minute lessons (beginners only)

$150 for 45 minute lessons (intermediate students)

$200 for 60 minute lessons (advanced students) 

The hourly rate is $65 per hour.
